A MERSEYSIDE teacher was arrested yesterday after claims she had sex with a teenage pupil.
The Liverpool Daily Post understands the 37-year-old Hightown woman is employed by a school in Southport.
The teacher, who has not yet been named, has been suspended by her school while police investigate the allegations against her.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a 37- year-old woman from the Hightown area has been arrested on suspicion of abuse of trust.
"She has been taken into police custody where she will be questioned."
A spokesman for Sefton Council said: “We are aware of this allegation. The member of staff was immediately suspended, and continues to be, while Merseyside Police are investigating.”
