Opinions divided at leaders’ debate party in Liverpool bar
Cameron played down the “change” message, instead he kept using the line “if I were your Prime Minister” on a number of occasions. It appeared to be a deliberate ploy.
In Hannah’s, where around 50 politicos and election enthusiasts watched the debate, opinion was clearly divided.
Almost all admitted the debate had not changed their voting intentions. The biggest laugh of the night in the bar came when Cameron said Brown’s closing speech appeared desperate – the camera then panned to Brown furiously nodding his head in disagreement.
Liverpool Conservative grandee Tony Caldeira was adamant his man had won the debate.
“The turning point was when he got angry about Labour peddling lies in leaflets,” he insisted.
Jonathan Deamer, a Labour party member, conceded victory to Nick Clegg.
“David Cameron, was very much on the defensive.”
Previous Liberal Democrat voter Adrian McEwen admitted that Gordon Brown did a “reasonable job”, but said that Clegg came across as the most genuine of the three.
