PLANS to create student flats in a quiet residential area were knocked back.
The application to create 13 flats in a disused building in Dudlow Lane, Mossley Hill, was previously deferred twice because of concerns about how it would impact on neighbours. Despite the objections from residents that it would ruin their peace and quiet, planning officers consistently recommended the plan for approval.
Residents argued the idea of allowing student homes in quiet residential areas was “getting out of control”.
Liverpool council’s planning committee was told yesterday the plan could be revised so there were only 11 bedrooms.
But councillors rejected the proposal.
Church ward councillorRichard Kemp said: “This is absolutely a victory for common sense.
“It is the wrong location and it would be wrong to put a lot of students next to accommodation predominantly lived in by the elderly.”
