AN OLYMPIC cycling hopeful from Widnes is recovering after being involved in a serious smash during a training ride in Belgium.
Lucy Martin, 20, was with the Great Britain women’s cycling team who were involved in a road accident on Saturday.
Team member Hannah Mayho was hit directly by a car pulling out of a junction between the towns of Brakel and Oudenaarde, while Lucy Martin, Katie Colclough, Emma Trott and Sarah Reynolds were also involved in the collision.
Martin suffered a cracked vertebra and has been resting under the supervision of the British Cycling team doctor.
