Wirral businessman’s PC assault charge

MERSEYSIDE businessman Stephen Vaughan, his son, and a Wirral man have been charged with grievous bodily harm after allegedly assaulting a policeman.

The charges centre around an alleged incident while the police officer was investigating a disturbance at the Jug and Bottle restaurant in Heswall on Easter Sunday in which the officer suffered a fractured cheekbone.

Stephen Vaughan Snr, 48, of Thurstaston Road, Heswall; Stephen Vaughan Jnr, 25, also of Thurstaston Road; and Paul Garner, 29, of Millfield, Neston, will now appear at Wirral Magistrates’ Court on May 26.

Stephen Vaughan Snr took over as chairman and majority shareholder of Chester City FC in 2001 but the club was wound-up in March over an unpaid tax bill.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that three men have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.”
