A JURY has found a man guilty of murder after he stabbed his landlord 83 times at his flat.
The panel of five men and seven women took 3½ hours yesterday to find Michal Kalinowski, 22, guilty of murdering Peter Berkley, 43, of Aughton, at his home in Abbeystead, Skelmersdale, on November 6 last year.
ŠMr Berkley’s family were in court as the verdict was read out following a trial which lasted more than two weeks.
ŠMr Berkley was stabbed 83 times with an 8in kitchen knife.
ŠKalinowski had denied murder but admitted manslaughter, saying he killed Mr Berkley trying to defend himself.
He Šsustained two knife wounds, which the prosecution said were self-inflicted.
ŠAbbeystead North West Ltd, run by Mr Berkley’s family, owned a number of flats on the road and he was responsible for collecting rent from tenants.
Kalinowski was due to be sentenced later today.
