Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson and Unison join forces to oppose public sector cuts

He said he was pleased to now be working with a Labour council in Liverpool and the union understood there would be hard times ahead.

“We are looking forward to engaging with Labour councils.

“We want our members and employees of the council to be part of the solution and the way forward, rather than being made the victims of the recession.”

Cllr Anderson said the coalition needed to “come clean” as quickly as possible about the scale of cuts.

“I am deeply concerned that many hundreds of millions of pounds worth of vital projects needed to improve our city could be under threat from the new Tory/Liberal Democrat government. This news has created a great deal of worry and fear.”
