Gymnast and former Liverpool student Beth Tweddle receives MBE

BRITAIN’S top gymnast – and former Liverpool John Moores University student – Beth Tweddle was honoured with an MBE on Friday.

The 25-year-old attended the investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace and was presented with her award by the Prince of Wales, who went on to wish her well at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Chester-born Beth, who trains in Liverpool, said afterwards: “It was totally surreal to get an MBE.

“I did not really believe it at first. I waited for the letter telling me I was coming to the Palace.

“I train to win gymnastic medals, but away from gymnastics the MBE is a massive honour.”

Beth’s first major title was the uneven bars at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, followed by a European gold at her favoured event in 2006.
