CITY leaders sent a message to Turin reaffirming the “bond of friendship” between the two cities ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Heysel tragedy.
A series of events is being planned in Liverpool to mark the disaster on May 29, 1985, when 39 Italian football fans lost their lives.
Bells will ring out in Liverpool this week on two separate days to remember the victims.
The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Mike Storey, penned a letter to his Turin counterpart, Sergio Thiamparino, at the weekend.
It described Heysel as “one of the most shameful and tragic events in our city’s history”.
At 3pm on Friday, a service will be held at Liverpool Town Hall.
