Sharon Green's Facebook page
A LIVERPOOL councillor is facing calls to resign after a picture mocking the disabled was posted on her Facebook page.
The picture, of a group of physically disabled adults, appeared on Liberal Democrat member Sharon Green’s site, with text underneath comparing them to the council’s Labour group.
Cllr Green, recently-elected in the St Michael’s ward, apologised for the image, but Lib-Dem leader Cllr Warren Bradley insisted she “could not be held responsible”.
Cllr Bradley, on Cllr Green’s behalf, said someone else had sent the image to her page on the social networking site, and that Cllr Green thought she had removed the “offensive” picture.
But the picture appears to have been placed in an online Facebook “album” called “the opposition by Sharon Green”, which could not be created or accessed by anyone else but the owner of the Facebook page.
The text, containing the names of leading Labour councillors, appears to be separate to the picture, suggesting it had been added to the image.
Yesterday, disabled charities said they were “disgusted and appalled” by the incident, while Labour said it would be referring Cllr Green to the standards committee.
The row broke this week as the city celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first Disability Discrimination Act.
But Cllr Bradley said he “considered the matter closed” and he and Cllr Green declined to comment further.

Cllr Bradley said: “As I'm not a member of Facebook, I have not seen the alleged picture, nor would I know how to access it.
“This picture was posted via an external source to her profile by another, which subsequently downloads automatically into your photo file; of course Cllr Green is extremely upset by this, and apologises if it has caused offence to anybody.
“It was completely out of her hands, and therefore Cllr Green cannot be held responsible for photos/ comments et cetera posted by an external source.
“Cllr Green has said she will personally write to each member of the Labour group who were tagged offering an apology and explanation as to how it appeared on her profile.”
