Hackney cab driver arrested and bailed after cyclist killed in Huyton collision

A CYCLIST was knocked off his bike and died in a crash in Huyton.

A hackney cab driver from Halewood was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has now been bailed pending further enquiries.

The 41-year-old, named locally as David, was killed on Saturday, at about 11.30am, on Liverpool Road, near its junction with Kingsway, in Huyton.

Yesterday, as friends and family laid flowers and Everton FC memorabilia at the scene, police appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He had been riding along Liverpool Road towards the city when he was in collision with the hackney cab which was travelling in the same direction.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “First on the scene were a couple of passersby who gave him CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, particularly passengers on three buses which stopped near the accident, to come forward.

Call Merseyside police on 0151 777 5771.
