Helen Newlove 300
HELEN NEWLOVE, who has campaigned against drink-related violence since her husband Garry was beaten to death by a gang in 2007, is to become a Tory peer.
Garry Newlove, 47, was battered and kicked senseless by a gang outside his home in Warrington after he confronted them over vandalism.
Mr Newlove, a sales manager, who had overcome stomach cancer years before, died in hospital two days later having never regained consciousness.
Mrs Newlove, who appeared with new Prime Minister David Cameron during a Tory visit to Bolton during the general election campaign, launched a series of blistering attacks on yob culture after her husband’s killers were jailed.
Mrs Newlove, who will sit on the Conservative benches as a Peer in the Lords, appeared widely in the media in the aftermath of the court case.
She said: “I am really chuffed and overwhelmed and totally delighted to take a seat.
“I want to work hard to make a difference, I won’t stop until changes are made.
