Major shake-up for Liverpool’s bin collections
BIN collections across Liverpool are about to undergo one of the biggest shake-ups in the council’s history.
Many householders across the city will be receiving calendars over the coming week telling them of their new bin collection dates.
For the first time, these will also include recycling and garden waste collections.
Council officials say it means people will just have to remember one day a week to put out their rubbish – and that it should make the service more efficient.
Currently, residents must put out their normal purple bins on one day of the week and their recycling bins on another. Around 360,000 bin collections are made every week – totalling 19m collections a year.
According to council figures currently, for every 100,000 bins collected, only 27 are missed, but it is hoped that as a result of the change, this number will fall even further.
Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Tim Moore, said: “This change is all about giving residents an improved service and making their life even easier – people only have to remember one day of the week to put out their rubbish and recycling.
“And concentrating collection vehicles in one area of the city means fuel emissions will be reduced – which will benefit the environment.”
