Sharon Green
THE Liverpool councillor at the centre of a storm over a Facebook picture mocking disabled people is under investigation by national party bosses.
Cllr Sharon Green, who represents St Michael’s ward, will face an inquiry despite city Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Warren Bradley deciding against launching a probe.
The national Lib-Dems have now intervened and asked their regional standards chiefs to get to the bottom of the affair, which caused widespread outrage when the news broke last month.
A spokesman for the Lib-Dem head office in London said: “As soon as we were made aware of this issue, we referred it to the regional standards committee.
“We have requested the North West regional party explore the matter further.”
Last week, the Daily Post revealed how a photo of disabled people was discovered on Cllr Green’s Facebook profile with text comparing them with the city’s Labour group.
Although Cllr Green did not comment, Cllr Bradley said “she could not be held responsible for things posted by other people”.
The picture was found in a Facebook “album” named “the opposition by Sharon Green”.
A spokesman for Facebook said: “To create an album in a profile, you must be logged into that profile.
“Other users may tag and comment on your photos, depending on a user’s privacy settings, but the caption can only be added by the user who created the album.”
