CHESTER’S medieval Midsummer Watch Parade returns this weekend.
Artist Russell Kirk has been working with schools across the region building giant characters for the parade.
Dating from 1498, the Midsummer Watch Parade is one of Britain's oldest and most colourful street parades.
The Midsummer Watch Parade was originally staged by the City Guilds at Midsummer. The parade was disbanded in the 1670s until its revival in 1989.
The tradition has been maintained by the council and the Friends of Chester Watch.
Leaving Abbey Gateway in the heart of the city at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, the parade route then continues along St Werburgh Street, Eastgate St, Watergate St, Nicholas St, Weaver St, White Friars, Bridge Street, and Northgate Street.
For more details, see the Midsummer Watch website at www.midsummerwatch.co.uk including photographs, video, a history of the parade and details about joining this year’s festivities.
