A POLICEMAN was injured and had to be airlifted to hospital after falling off his quad bike at a Merseyside beach.
The officer, who is in his 40s, was on a routine beach patrol when he came off the bike on Fisherman’s Path, off Montagu Road in Formby, at around 4pm yesterday.
The officer, who hasn’t been named, is a police constable with the local Formby and Crosby neighbourhood team.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the man was conscious and breathing while being treated at the scene, but reported having chest and leg pains.
The officer was on patrol with a colleague when the incident happened, but the pair were not involved in a rescue.
The colleague gave a statement to police last night to help the force establish exactly what happened.
A police spokesman said: “Due to the location of the incident, an air ambulance was required and the victim was taken to hospital in Southport for treatment.
“His condition is described as stable and his family have been informed.
