JOSPICE have secured a jackpot grant of £600,000 to massively improve facilities at the Thornton-based hospice.
Fears that the government grant would be withdrawn have been relieved after staff received the much-needed funding.
Vice president for Jospice, Cherie Blair said: “I’m delighted by the news. This is great news for Jospice’s future.”
The grant of £600,000 is part of a Department of Health programme of grants to hospices which was frozen while the new government reviewed spending commitments.
The government has confirmed that all those grants will now be made.
General manager of Jospice Keith Cawdron said: “This is great news for our future patients. Although we still have a funding gap we now know we will be able to convert our buildings.””
