Fans bask in sun at hottest ever Glastonbury

THE “hottest Glastonbury ever” shrugged its shoulders after England’s World Cup humiliation last night, and went back to the music.

Thousands massed in two specially designated fields to watch a hapless England get dumped out of the World Cup.

But once they got back to the bands and the bar, few cared.

Glastonbury 2010 closed on a high last night, with headliner Stevie Wonder delighting fans with hits covering his whole career. Musically, 60-year-old Wonder and his band proved their class, keeping the jubilant crowd dancing throughout the set.

Fearing queues, many of the 140,000 on site had already packed up their tents and loaded their cars before Wonder’s appearance.

Earlier, festival organiser Michael Eavis hailed this year’s Glastonbury as the hottest ever.

He added: “I have not seen one person drunk – more than 100,000 and not one person. They have been civilised.

“This is the hottest Glastonbury ever. I hope not too hot. But getting nice weather makes such a big difference.”

And the dairy farmer heaped praise on rockers Muse, who topped the bill last night, calling them “the headliners we had waited for”.

Asked if Prince Charles’ visit to the site, near Pilton, Somerset, on Thursday confirmed Glastonbury as part of the establishment he smiled and said: “Non-conformity is the name of the game as far as I am concerned.”

But the 74-year-old would not be drawn on calls for him to be knighted.
