Spin doctor Alastair Campbell backs Merseyside mental health campaign

TONY BLAIR’S former spin doctor has given his backing to a Merseyside mental health campaign.

Alastair Campbell is supporting the Sticks And Stones campaign launched by 5 Boroughs Partnership, which asks people to stop using words like “nutter” and “mental” to describe people with mental health problems.

He said: “Mental illness is challenging and distressing in itself without the added upset of dealing with negative comments.

“I would urge everyone to take an honest look at the type of language they use and recognise the hurt which can be caused, even if it is unintentional.”

He himself was hospitalised with depression in 1986.

The trust wants 100,000 signatures. To sign up, log on to www.stampoutstigma.co.uk
