Hung jury in trial of heroin addict accused of killing St Helens supermarket worker

JURORS were unable to reach a verdict in the trial of a heroin addict accused of killing a supermarket worker.

Stephen Brighouse, 34, is alleged to have caused checkout supervisor Maureen Marsh’s death by pushing her during a confrontation as he shoplifted at Morrisons, in St Helens, on April 18, 2009.

Brighouse, of Gloucester Road, St Helens, denied manslaughter and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, insisting he had never touched checkout supervisor Mrs Marsh.

After more than 9½ hours of deliberating, Liverpool Crown Court jurors failed to reach a verdict.
