Prince Harry presents Elizabeth Crosses to the family of Sergeant John Langton, from Garston, who died in a Nimrod crash in Afghanistan

PRINCE HARRY has presented Elizabeth Crosses to the families of two servicemen killed in Afghanistan, one of whom was from Liverpool.

The Prince met relatives of Sergeant John Langton and Senior Aircraftman Luke Southgate in a private ceremony during a visit to RAF Honington, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Sergeant Langton, 29, from Garston, was a crew member on an RAF Nimrod which crashed in Helmand, in September, 2006, claiming the lives of 14 servicemen.

RAF officials said Sergeant Langton was based at RAF Kinloss near Forres, Moray, when he died but had been based at Honington earlier in his career.

Senior Aircraftman Southgate, 20 – who came from Bury St Edmunds and was a member of the RAF Regiment, which is based at Honington – died in an explosion while patrolling near Kandahar Airfield in February.

The Elizabeth Cross was introduced in 2009 and is presented to the families of servicemen and women killed in military operations or by terrorists.
