Tam O’Shanter Farm welcomes Viking visitors for archaeology event

A HISTORY day unlocked the secrets of Viking Wirral for visitors to an urban farm.

Wrexham and District Archaeology Club organised the Life, Leisure and Combat in Viking Wirral event at Tam O’Shanter Farm, Bidston, as part of the national Festival of British Archaeology.

Members of Wirhalh Skip Felag demonstrated ancient crafts including spinning and weaving. There were also shield-making workshops and a herb trail.

Wirral Viking expert Professor Stephen Harding, of Nottingham University, gave a talk.

Organiser Heather Butler said: “We hope it will encourage youngsters to get involved in archaeology.”
