Communities Secretary Eric Pickles takes tour of Liverpool developments
COMMUNITIES and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles joined Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson to tour a site to where it is hoped hundreds of public sector jobs will be relocated from Westminster.
While visiting the location in Pall Mall, Cllr Anderson told Mr Pickles he foresaw a great opportunity for Liverpool to play an even bigger role by having Government officers who could support the project on hand in the North West, creating jobs and opportunities.
Mr Pickles was also taken to Anfield, where he saw the progress of the housing market renewal initiative, funding for which is due to end next year. He would not give commitments about the future of the specific scheme but said most of the money was now secure, adding: “When we took over, there was a commitment by Labour for £1.5bn and no money.
“At last we have managed to find most of the money, but it was a hard graft.”
