THE Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra was given a rousing reception when it appeared at this year’s BBC Proms.
The orchestra, which was led by chief conductor Vasily Petrenko, performed at the Royal Albert Hall, in London, last night.
The orchestra was joined by regular collaborator, Macedonian pianist Simon Trpceski, for a programme of Rachmaninov, Schumann, and Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony.
The RLPO’s recording of the Manfred was named Classic FM/Gramophone Award recording of the year. Speaking before the concert, conductor Petrenko said: “The Royal Albert Hall is a great space for the Manfred Symphony.
“We decided the programme alongside the BBC.
“We said we would love to play with Simon, and to play the Manfred, and they suggested the Rachmaninov Second Piano Concerto.”
The Proms is celebrating its 116th year and includes more than 70 main concerts throughout the season.
SEE tomorrow’s Daily Post for a review of the concert, and catch it on BBC2 on Saturday evening.
