A MERSEYSIDE father-of-two was praised by his neighbours for tackling a blaze in their home.
Fire crews were called to the house in Bidston Avenue, Claughton, just before 1pm yesterday when flames engulfed the kitchen of the terraced house.
Bobby Jones, 49, helped to contain the fire by wading through the smoke-logged hall to close a kitchen door.
No-one was trapped inside the house, but Mr Jones and home owner Michelle Burns were both treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
“It was just natural instinct, Michelle’s got young children, you see,” the father-of-two said.
It is thought that the fire was caused by an electrical fault, and could have spread further had a water pipe not burst in the heat and acted as a sprinkler system to dampen the flames.
Mrs Burns said: “If it wasn’t for Bobby I don’t know what we’d have done.”
