Captain America movie to be filmed in Liverpool

They included John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr.

More than £100m was generated for the city’s economy during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Mr McKeown said he wanted to see “as much community involvement as possible” when filming begins for Captain America.

He added: “We are a city full of filming expertise and talent and it would be a crying shame if that wasn’t tapped in to.

“I think Marvel will be really pleased at what the city can offer and I’m sure this film will really bolster our film-making credentials.”

Local residents could even appear in the Joe Johnston-directed film after a call for extras was launched.

London-based extras agency Casting Collective is appealing for Liverpool men and women aged 16-90, who are “free to work in September 2010”.

The ad reads: “Men must be prepared to have a 1940’s short back and sides haircut, longer on top.

“Women must have....no fake or natural tan.”
