CHAVASSE PARK was chosen as the site for a new peace monument in memory of John Lennon.
The 18ft sculpture will be unveiled on October 9, on what would have been the former Beatle’s 70th birthday, by his son Julian.
The memorial statue is being created by California-based organisation Global Peace Initiative which hopes to place peace monuments on every continent.
Liverpool’s will be the memorial for Europe.
Jerry Goldman, managing director of The Beatles Story which is behind the plan, said: “The decision on the site was between ourselves and suggestions from the planners.
“We were looking for somewhere which was prominent and where people could congregate and lay flowers and tributes, but which could be carefully maintained and secure and cared for.
“That limits where you could put such a thing.
“I think up on the top of Chavasse Park is a brilliant site for it. It’s right opposite the Hilton, and you can see it from the Strand. It will be 18ft high and will be very visible.”
