John Lennon monument to be in Liverpool’s Chavasse Park

The planning application is for 12 months, although Mr Goldman says that does not necessarily mean the sculpture will be moved at the end of 2011.

But he added: “One of the thoughts was that Liverpool city has been toying with the idea of developing a peace park, this has been on the agenda for a little while now.

“I don’t know where the current thinking is, but at the time we decided on a temporary application for Chavasse Park it was very much in people’s thoughts, and we wanted the option to think that might be a more appropriate place to move it to.”

The design for the Peace and Harmony monument, being created by 19-year-old American artist Lauren Voiers, was unveiled at Liverpool’s World Expo pavilion in Shanghai last month.

It is currently being constructed in an art foundry in Phoenix, Arizona, where the artist will hand-paint it.

It will then be shipped to Liverpool where it will be installed for its unveiling at the start of the city’s two-month tribute to John Lennon.
