A BID to put a 15m phone mast close to a school in south Liverpool is under attack from councillors over health and safety fears.
Mobile company Telefonica 02 Ltd wants to put the mast on the footpath outside the Tesco store, in Greenbank Lane.
But Greenbank ward Cllrs Paul and Jan Clein objected to the proposal on the grounds it would be twice the height and “double the strength” of a mast previously given planning permission.
Residents objected on the grounds “the health impacts of masts are unknown and therefore they should not be located near schools, playgrounds, hospitals and care homes.”
But a report to go before council’s planning committee today stated the power of the mast is within guidelines.
