PLANS for Alder Hey’s £300m redevelopment were opposed by vets who claim its construction will distress the animals in their care.
Alder Veterinary Hospital, in Eaton Road, West Derby, also said it also feared plans for a multi-storey car park overlooking its base would give a vantage point for thieves who might want to target the building.
A planning committee report to go before Liverpool councillors today said the vets’ surgery objected on the grounds the “blue light” and service road would increase the amount of traffic heard in the building, which would affect animals.
It also claimed the access road would lead to an increase in air pollution, and the loss of a public car park next to its property would have an adverse impact on business because it was used by clients.
But the council’s highways manager said the road network can accommodate the traffic associated with the new hospital.
