NATIONAL Museums Liverpool has launched a petition protesting at central Government cuts which could force the closure of some of its best-loved attractions.
The organisation urged visitors to sign up to the protest, which aims to persuade ministers to reconsider plans to slash funding to museum services.
It will be presented to the Government this autumn, when ministers are due to decide on NML’s fate.
NML receives 95% of its budget directly from the Government and was warned to expect a cut of up to 40%.
Last week, it announced contingency plans to close the National Conservation Centre and Piermaster’s House to visitors from October, while reducing Sudley House, in Aigburth, to seasonal opening.
David Fleming, director of NML, last night called on members of the public to support the campaign.
