Olympic hero Chris Boardman opens new cycle facility at Southport railway station

AN OLYMPIC gold medallist officially opened a new railway station unit where cyclists can store, hire or repair their bikes.

Chris Boardman, from Hoylake, unveiled the 150-space unit at Southport station.

A further 17 facilities have also been opened across the Merseyrail network, providing 700 secure spaces for cyclists.

The units can be used free of charge.
