MAJOR tailbacks were caused by a crash on the M62.
A car hit the central reservation shortly before 5pm yesterday, causing the motorway to close eastbound, between Junction Six at the M57 interchange and Junction Seven at St Helens.
A black Ford Focus, which was being driven by a 25-year-old man, spun around and came to a stop in the middle lane, facing the oncoming traffic.
Fire crews cut the man free from the car. He was taken to Whiston Hospital with suspected spinal and neck injuries, not thought to be serious.
Two other cars were involved but no one else was injured.
People queued for up to 50 minutes on the M62 and the M57.
The M62 was reopened by 7pm.
