Paul Heathcote
LEADING Liverpool chef and restaurateur Paul Heathcote is putting aside his saucepans to take on his biggest charity challenge yet – scaling one of the highest Alpine peaks with his 75-year-old father.
The Daily Post columnist has been training five days a week and regularly going to the gym for the past year to prepare for climbing the Matterhorn, which is just short of 15,000ft at its summit.
He will be joined by his father, Ken, when he sets out at the start of next week for the mountain, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. They hope to complete the climb in two days.
Heathcote, 49, owns two city centre restaurants – Simply Heathcotes on Beetham Plaza, and the Olive Press on Castle Street.
He said he first had the idea of climbing the Matterhorn while on a skiing holiday in Zermatt, Switzerland, which is overlooked by the mountain.
“The Matterhorn climb will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, made all the more special by being accompanied by my dad,” he said.
