THE hosepipe ban remains on Merseyside, despite torrential downpours and floods blighting the area over recent weeks.
United Utilities have said that reservoir levels in the Pennines were still too low to lift restrictions imposed last month after a very dry start to the year.
John Butcher, regional supplies manager for United Utilities, said: “In the North West, we have had three weeks of intense rain after six months of the lowest ever recorded rainfall. Although there has been recovery in some parts, we are still not where we need to be.
“We have to wait for all the reservoirs to revert back to normal levels for this time of year and then we will look at lifting the ban.”
Heavy rain and flash flooding brought many parts of Merseyside to a standstill at the end of July.
