Maghull and Irby cancer survivors star in Cancer Research UK TV advert

TWO Merseyside cancer survivors have been chosen to star in a TV awareness campaign.

Justine Sheils, from Maghull, and Calvin Wood, from Irby, have filmed the Cancer Research UK campaign, which focuses on the emotions of being diagnosed with the killer disease.Ms Sheils, 39, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2006 after she noticed a change in a mole on her chest. She currently has check-ups every six months. She said: “I was eager to be involved in this new ad campaign because I, and thousands more like me, have benefited from the progress made by Cancer Research UK’s scientists, doctors and nurses.” Retired grandfather-of-four Mr Wood was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001.

He made a good recovery.

He added: “Thanks to the work of Cancer Research UK, a cancer diagnosis does not necessarily equal a death sentence, and I am living proof of that.”
