Knowsley council’s executive director of regeneration, economy and skills, Nick Kavanagh, said: “We have only just received the plans from Tesco so obviously cannot confirm the exact detail of the proposals at this time.
“However, Tesco have already shared with the community their initial ideas for the redevelopment.
“Hundreds of residents attended their consultation event in July and shared feedback.
“We are obviously delighted that new plans have been developed and that the regeneration of Kirkby is still moving forward despite the current economic conditions.
“Once plans are validated and entered into the system, we will of course be consulting with residents and businesses again to get their feedback on the proposals.”
A council spokesman said a date for the planning committee to discuss the new proposals will be set once the application has been registered.
