A FLOCK of 10 doves was released yesterday after a service to remember those who died in car crashes on Merseyside’s roads.
Sixty pairs of shoes were also laid on the steps of the Anglican Cathedral in a graphic representation of the toll road deaths take.
The service was held on the 13th anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in a car accident in a Paris tunnel.
It was organised by RoadPeace North West, which is chaired by Pauline Fielding.
Mrs Fielding, whose son, Andrew, was killed 16 years ago on Chester High Road, in Neston, said: “While the number of people killed and injured on roads in this country is coming down, it’s not going down quickly enough.
“It is a very important part of these things that families who have been bereaved can talk to each other. A lot of good can come from that.”
