Marks & Spencer store in Williamson Square
A DERELICT corner of one of Liverpool’s busiest squares is to be demolished and redeveloped.
Marks and Spencer bought the former Famous Army Stores and ex-Stoniers shop in Williamson Square – behind its Church Street store – as part of its expansion plans.
Now it has applied for planning permission to revamp the properties at the corner of the square with Tarleton Street.
The national chain said it wants to pull down the eyesore buildings, but has no immediate plans what the new space would be used for.
A planning request to the city council says the proposal is for a speculative development that would be building shells and cores only.
The first and second floors of the new building would line up with those of the existing Marks and Spencer store to allow for possible future expansion.
