Lottery machines in pubs raise cash for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation

PUB goers can raise pounds for lung cancer as well as having a flutter thanks to new lottery machines launched across Liverpool.

The ‘TabBOXX’ lottery machines have been put into pubs to help raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

And they are proving to be a popular way to raise cash, as almost £30,000 has been raised for the charity so far.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the UK’s only charity dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer and relies on donations to fight the disease.

The TabBOXX machines work by dispensing pull-tab lottery tickets for £1 each. Ticket holders have a chance of winning up to £1,000.

Machines have been put in pubs in the city centre, Bootle, Churchtown, St Helens and Southport.

The charity also benefits from machines in pubs elsewhere across the country.

Matt Boyle, director of fundraising for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer in the UK with 34,600 people dying every year, so it is vital we continue to raise money to help us in the fight to defeat this truly awful disease.

“Since the launch of the lottery only a few months ago, we have already raised more than £27,000 , which all goes directly to helping us fund research programmes, supporting patients with lung cancer and running awareness and prevention campaigns.”
