A PASSIONATE organ donor campaigner and charity worker, Ali Bakran was a dedicated member of Liverpool’s medical community.
Born in Hyderabad, India, he moved to the UK as a child, growing up in Salford and attending Manchester Grammar School before studying medicine at Leeds University.
But it was in Liverpool where his tireless work for transplant patients was most felt.
While at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Mr Bakran was chosen to travel to Africa as an ambassador for the Royal College of Surgeons and set up the charity Aequitas.
Professor Neil Turner, Kidney Research UK chairman, said: “It was with great sadness we heard of the death of Ali Bakran.
“Ali served on the board of trustees for Kidney Research UK for three years.
“In 2005, Ali organised a ‘celebration of life’ gala dinner for more than 160 patients from across the UK who had all lived with their kidneys transplants for more than 25 years.
“Colleagues all spoke very highly of Ali and he will greatly missed. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.”
