SIGHTSEERS were taken to hospital after a yellow duck marine bus accident in the city centre.

Police closed Duke Street and part of Hanover Street to traffic after the 30 seater amphibious tourist bus lost a wheel and jolted to a halt just before 4pm yesterday.

More than 10 ambulance, fire and traffic police went to the scene to help the 19 adults and children on board the duck, four of whom were injured.

An 80-year-old woman was rescued from the bus by firefighters and put on a spinal board, suffering suspected heart problems.

Paramedics also treated a 32-year-old woman with suspected head injuries, a 42-year-old woman with facial injuries and a 23-year-old man with leg injuries.

All the casualties were taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Other passengers were unhurt.

A police spokesman said: “A rear tyre from the vehicle appears to have come off whilst the vehicle was travelling along Duke Street towards Hanover Street.”
