Jim Gill returns from retirement as advisor to Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson

THE recently-retired chief executive of regeneration agency Liverpool Vision is to return as an advisor to council leader Joe Anderson.

Jim Gill, who played a key role in Liverpool’s renaissance, left the city council-funded Vision in July.

Next week he starts work for the Labour leader and interim chief executive David McElhinney two days a week, until the end of 2010.

The council hopes to use Mr Gill’s vast experience and contacts while it undergoes a restructure that has seen four of the council’s six top managers depart.

Liberal Democrat opposition leader Warren Bradley said he wished Mr Gill well, but questioned how much he was being paid.

It is understood Mr Gill will be paid around £15,000 for his advice.

“Jim will be employed as a highly-paid consultant, something Cllr Anderson was extremely critical of only a few weeks ago,” said Cllr Bradley.

Cllr Anderson defended the appointment saying it was vital the council had the very best people to keep up momentum in the development of the city.
