A HUSBAND who allegedly strangled his wife and dumped her body told police he was “devastated” after concocting a story she had left him for another man, a jury was told.
Liverpool Crown Court heard a telephone call between Michael Roberts and a police operator investigating a report of Vicky Roberts, 25, going missing.
The prosecution claims the Phones 4 U store manager had sex with his newly-wed wife at their flat in Daresbury before throttling her with a bathrobe cord. Roberts has insisted he accidentally killed Vicky during a kinky sex game gone wrong on November 29, and then hid her body.
During a telephone conversation with police on December 3, the defendant said: “Obviously, as you can imagine, I’m devastated. She’s just upped and left.”
Roberts denies murder.
The case continues.
