Liverpool Food and Drink Festival brings thousands of visitors to Sefton Park

CELEBRITY chef Ian Pengelly said it was the people of Liverpool that made this year’s Food and Drink Festival such a success.

Around 40,000 people flocked to the launch of the event at Sefton Park yesterday.

It featured 80 of the city’s top bars and restaurants, as well as a masterclass marquee for suppliers to talk about their products.

Fusion chef Ian received a standing ovation after his cookery demonstration.

He said: “I have done demonstrations in London and this festival is up there with it. I’m coming back next year. I’ve loved it and it’s been really good fun. It’s the people that make it.”

Paul Askew, co-owner and chef at London Carriage Works, on Hope Street, described the event as an “amazing” success.

He said: “Ten years ago, people laughed at us when we said we wanted to create a festival for Liverpool and here we are. There have been 40,000 people in the park celebrating what’s great about food and drink in Liverpool. That’s what we have all worked so hard for.”
