Hope Street prepares for its fifth annual Hope Street Feast

Hope St Festival

AN URBAN village fete is expected to draw thousands of people to Hope Street this weekend.

The annual Hope Street Feast, now in its fifth year, takes place on Sunday with more than six hours of free entertainment and events.

Simon Glinn, executive director of the Philharmonic Hall and manager of the event, said: “It’s an urban village fete, that’s the feel of it.

“This year, the event really does extend the length of the street, from the gates of the student building in Mount Pleasant right through to the Anglican Cathedral.”

Visitors will get the chance to see the roof garden at the Liverpool Guild of Students where they grow vegetables, herbs, salad and even produce honey collected by the resident bees.

Herbs from the roof garden will be used to make burgers and sausages sold at the Feast.

Hope Street will be closed, along with parts of Hardman Street and Myrtle Street, from 5.30am to 8pm on Sunday, with a farmers’ market running the length of the street.

There will also be stalls created by street theatre company Hope Street Ltd, whose Wealth and Hell Being Hospital will help people rediscover their childhood, reignite their interest in 1940s radio, take them to a tropical island or allow them to indulge in the fine alpine tradition of the Von Trapp family.
