AN INVESTIGATION is under way into the death of a former British boxing champion from Liverpool.

Alan Rudkin, 68, was found collapsed on Mount Street, just a short walk from his city centre home, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

He was taken to hospital at around 3am, but later died.

The cause of his death is unclear and as such officers from Merseyside police are treating it as “unexplained”.

More will be known when they have the results of a post mortem examination.

CCTV from the area was being sought and officers were making house-to-house inquiries in the area.

Yesterday, the area where he collapsed, close to the Liverpool School of Performing Arts, was taped off and being treated as a crime scene.

Cars and pedestrians were diverted by a uniformed policeman who was guarding the cordon.
