THE family of a student from Wirral have set up a poetry prize for youngsters in the borough.
Chris Salmon, a student of Calday Grange Grammar School, died suddenly in February, 2009, at the age of 15 just days after complaining of a headache.
Since then, his parents and older brother Jonathan have set up a charity – The Chris Salmon Foundation – to fund research into the streptococcal virus which led to his death, and education.
The foundation has so far raised £15,000 from a variety of events. Now the “Chris Salmon Poetry Extravaganza”, will be officially launched this week. The competition will be open to all primary, secondary and sixth form students in Wirral. Competition entry forms and rules will be available from all Wirral libraries or online via www.wirral-libraries.net/chrissalmon or www.chrissalmon.org.uk after October 7.
