LIVERPOOL celebrated John Lennon’s 70th birthday with words, music and the unveiling of a peace monument in his name.
Son Julian and first wife Cynthia officially unveiled the 18ft Peace and Harmony monument in Chavasse Park on Saturday.
It was due to be erected in Berlin, but the organisation changed its mind after being approached by Beatles Story managing director Jerry Goldman.
Liverpool Signing Choir performed versions of Imagine, In My Life, Real Love and a sing-a-long rendition of Give Peace a Chance.
The ceremony was one of a number of events organised at the start of the city’s two-month Lennon Tribute Season which runs until December 9.
