Work due to start on new £30 million supermarket in Wirral

WORK is set to get under way next month on the long awaited new Asda store in Birkenhead.

The development, which will result in a £30m investment in the town centre will be on Grange Road, part of the town’s main shopping district.

The new store will be approximately 90,000 square feet when completed and will front onto Grange Road.

Work is due to begin on November 1 to prepare the site for demolition of the existing buildings situated between Grange Road and Oliver Street before construction of the new store starts in the new year.

Details of the development are due to be released later today.

The new store is expected to create up to 320 new full and part-time jobs by the third year of trading.

The development has been in the pipeline for several years.

Two years ago, the council began using compulsory purchase orders to push ahead with the scheme.
